Background Tweak & a Question about Images

I didn't have enough time to create a new caption, but I managed to do a few little things here and there.

I finally was able to find a new background for the blog. I had been using one of the defaults provided by blogger, but I always felt a little bad about being lazy with blog design. So here's the new one, that mostly keeps the same vibe as what I was using before, but now I no longer feel like I'm slacking, or at least not as much.

On a side note, for those of you who use a higher resolution that I do (Hi Caitlyn), I tried using an image large enough so that you won't see the tessellation, but please let me know if I still need to go larger.

Now on to formspring:

Did you ever have a problem with the pics you choose to caption (people portrayed don't liking caption, etc?)

I've actually been pretty fortunate in this regard, as I've never had an issue with this. Whether it's just luck, or the fact that I tend to be pretty careful in the images I choose, I don't know. But in case it's the latter, here's a few things I try to do with image selection.

1. I tend to only take images from pornographic sources. These are girls who know exactly what the intent of the images are, and while I may add a slightly different backstory than what they had in mind, the end result is still the same. I'm not taking "clean" models or other celebrities and perverting what could be considered a "harmless" image. The people I use are usually already naked/having sex and I'm writing about them being naked/having sex.

2. I usually stick to sample gallery pics. There have been a few occasions where I have "found" a full image set and used several images from it, but for the most part, the pics I'm using are readily and legally available in sample galleries from various websites.

3. I make no money off of captioning in anyway whatsoever. I know there are some captioners who do, and a lot more who don't. I personally side with the second group as I'm not comfortable taking credit for work that isn't mine. I didn't take the picture, so I only publish my alterations to them under "fair use."

And while I'm talking about image selection, I've saved the url of almost every image that I've ever captioned. So if you like a girl or a particular series that you've seen on this blog, let me know. There's a pretty good chance I can point you in the right direction for where to find more of the same.

  1. Hi Rauk!

I think the background image looks just fine.

It is a tad bright when it's under the text boxes to the left (your top 25 and your Labels), but as your main area is fully opaque I wouldn't worry about it. And I can view your blog full screen and don't see the tessellation.

    1. I'm glad to hear the full screen is working. I still might play around with the color scheme when I have a little time though.

  2. Yeah, looks fine on my screen too!

I've had one issue with photography, and it wasn't my fault.

Someone on the Haven had supplied pictures of women they'd like to be, so I obliged them and made a caption. I guess that was fine on a "closed" environment like Rachel's Haven.

However, once I posted the caption to my blog, I got an email from a model asking where I had gotten the picture and why I was using it without permission. I told them I would immediately pull it down, and I did.

There is no doubt in my mind the request was legitimate .. her email came from her site which had all her modelling shots posted. I think most models will be understanding if you are willing to pull down the offending pictures right away.

You posting about this is once again making me think about what I am going to post on my blog in the future.

    1. You bring up a good point, in that I have done requests where I don't know where the images come from, so I guess I've just been lucky in that I haven't had any issues with having to take down captions.

  3. One thing that sometimes happens is a member will ask who a model is and the models actual name comes up on the blog. When that occurs (if it is left there long enough) when said model or his/her management happens to scan net for occurances of his/her name in use they will invariably find the blog and may ask questions. So when a person has such questions about a model it is best they ask the blogger for a way to reach them in private about the model rather than have the name become posted to the blog.

    1. Another good point that I hadn't considered. Thanks for the input.

    2. You are quite welcome. I am glad to have been of help however minor my help was with the mention of the issue of names being discussed.
