Penance

I decided to try messing around with a new cap layout with this one. Not sure how I feel about it.

So as you can tell from my last two captions, I've decided to try mixing up my layouts a bit. I still love my standard and probably won't be abandoning it completely, but I'm hoping adding a new element to my cap creation process will give me a bit more inspiration to make new material.

Unfortunately it also has the side effect of drastically slowing down the actual composition process, as I now have another aspect to take into account. So I'm not sure what the net effect will be, maybe thinking more about design will open up a series of new challenges that fuel my motivation, or maybe the added expectations I'll inevitable put on myself for design will cripple my ability to start new projects. I guess we'll wait and see.

Hopefully you all are enjoying the more introspective style I've been using in my writing, as I have a feeling I'll be using it a lot in the foreseeable future.

  1. I love the more introspective style. It hasn't lost any of the squirmy sexiness in this cap, its only made it more cerebral. That along with the layout gives this a Caitlyn vibe, which of course I mean as a compliment.

    1. As soon as I started writing this one I had a feeling it would end up being very Caitlyn-esqe, so I actually went through some of her caps for inspiration on ways to do the layout.

While adding more layers/elements does make a lovely image, beware of going to the degree that it becomes tedious, Rauk.

This looks great and feels better!

    1. Thanks, and the plan is to try to prevent it from becoming tedious, it's just a matter of if I can stick to it or not.

  3. This is a lovely and wonderfully written cap Rauk! I'm with smitty... I love the more introspective tone. It makes it squrimy, but not in an obvious or overt way.

As for the layout... well it's flawless! I'm with Elle though too... don't let the design get in the way of making another great cap. On the flip side of that, the more that you play with any layout and design, the easier it will get. Whenever I venture into a new layout it takes me forever, but each time I use it, it both gets easier and quicker!

    1. Agreed, Caitlyn! Practice makes fun formats faster. My problem is learning more leads to trying to do more to my pages -which is probably a bad thing and makes them a bit gawdy in some opinions.

And, Rauk, here's hoping you can achieve the looks you want without departing from your plan!!!

    2. Thank you. I'm glad to hear that the new style is being well received. At this point, I don't know where I'm going with layouts, but I've got a feeling it's going to be on a "cap by cap" basis for how much effort I want to put into the design.

  4. Hello, sweetie!

I know that this is not coming from you, Rauk. I just wanted to show you what shows up in my emails. This is just one example of numerous falsies that I have gotten from your blog alone. I've gotten others from Britney's "Big Bang" post as well, and I believe it might be related to not having the 'Prove you're not a machine' application active on comment publishing.

Hello to all, how is the whole thing, I think every one is getting more from this web page,

    1. I know. I've been getting spammed ever since I turned off comment verification. Usually google is pretty good about filtering out the crap, but lately it's been slipping. I apologize for the inconvenience, but I have noticed a definite increase in the number of comments since I turned verification off, so I'm hesitant to put it back in place, although I will if things don't improve soon.

    2. Cool, just letting you know about it. As long as you're comfy with it and not getting hacked, I can ignore them.

  5. I usually let the picture dictate how the caption is framed. The one you chose for this one fits very well with the text box overlay you did. "Landscape" photos are most suited for this style, while "portrait" tends to be more comfortable with side text.

There are exceptions of course, depending on how much text will be in the caption, and how the story flow is interrupted by elements in the picture and if they line up within the timeline, etc ...

I think its a great way to add to your arsenal of captioning and switch things around to keep yourself interested. Of course, the story works well, and is heightened by the way its been framed. In that way, each piece of the caption makes the other better.

    1. I appreciate the input. I'm still very new to playing around with layouts (hence 95% of my caps having the exact same one), but I'm looking forward to experimenting some more when I find the time to cap again.
