Corporate Punishment
This was a request for Amber Smithe, who sent me the story outline and a massive photo set she wanted me to use images from. I changed the story around a bit as I decided to tell the whole thing through dialog, which also had the added effect of leading me to write the most awkward transformation description I've ever had in a caption. But as a whole I like how it turned out, and I hope Amber does too.
On a less pleasant note, I'm going to be taking some time off from captioning. I know what some of you are thinking "You're updating once every two weeks as it is, how much more time off do you need?"
To that I say...um...fair point. But here's my current creative process:
My current captions take me about 2 hours to make when you put everything together (image, background, story, formatting). But I usually only have about an hour of free time for captioning. So what usually happens is I end up with a lot of half formed ideas that end up on my to do list. Then when I do get time to revisit the ideas, I want to do something really good as I haven't posted in a while which kills my motivation to do most of the stuff I put on the list.
So I'm taking some time off where I won't look at anything captioning related. Hopefully it won't be much longer than the breaks between my updates are now, and I'll come back with some fresh ideas and the energy to do them. Some more free time would help too, but that doesn't see too likely.
Anyway, see you all again in a bit.

The Kind of Body
Another caption where the picture gave me a general idea of where to start, and then I just ran with it to see where I ended up. I certainly didn't go anywhere new with this one, but they can't all be groundbreaking. Sometimes you just revisit an old idea and hope you add a little something new to it. I'm not sure I accomplished that goal either, but I still like how this one turned out. If a situation shows up enough to become to cliche, it was probably to be good enough to warrant repeating in the first place. Either that or I'm just lazy, which is probably true as well. A Wave of the Wand
I successfully made it through the first week of only new captions! I definitely wouldn't have made it without doing some prep work so I have to make sure I take the time over the weekend to gather the images and plan out what kind of captions I want to write to ensure I stay on track.
Anyway, today's caption features the lovely Playful Alice. As you all may have noticed when I find a model I like I tend to use her over and over, so it shouldn't be any surprise that I guarantee you'll see some more of her in the future. This is one of the rare photo sets that really captures my complete attention. I'm still not happy with the text as I feel like it could have been so much more. The images lend themselves so easily to being captioned that I created a bunch of different scenarios for how I wanted to use them. But after rewriting this pair for the fifth or sixth time I finally accepted that nothing was going to perfectly match what was in my head and I just starting polishing the best of the bunch. So while I still really like how this turned out, I'm a little sad that I wasn't able to better tell the story that I envisioned. I hope to do better the next time Alice is featured in a piece. Have a great weekend everyone.

No Hard Feelings
I'm back. Well...mostly back. I finally had a bit of a breakthrough and created some new captions this weekend. I really like how this first one turned out, the other two are pretty average, but I'll take what I can get. So while I'm not writing at 100%, it's a hell of a lot better than being stuck like I was for the past two weeks. Now I just have to keep the ball rolling. I've got some new ideas and a new request to work on, so hopefully things should be back to normal. See you Wednesday.
