Endings

Looks like I wasn't done with 2012 just yet.

After seeing how well my last cap went over, I wasn't planning on making another one until the new year. But the more I thought about it, the less satisfied I was with how I ended 2012. Sure the last caption was a crowd pleaser (at least according to the vote boxes at the bottom of the post), but did I really want to finish the year with a run of the mill tg story?

2012 (or at least the second half of it) had a darker tone than my first year of this blog, thanks to Seven. And while I love that series probably more than anything else I've created here, I did not want to finish the year without addressing the positive aspects of fantasy after I so thoroughly beat the crap out of it in caps like "Sloth."

So I decided to run with an idea that's been bouncing around in my head for a while now, just not in a tg context.

Stories define who we are. Whether through the ones we write or create, or the ones we read over and over again. They let us express and reinforce our own values and beliefs, while allowing us to explore new ones at the same time. We hold on to the ones that resonate with us, and discard the ones that don't. And while this is true on a personally level, it also applies on a grander scale, with things like the "Hero's Journey" being passed down through generations, from the epics of Beowulf to modern classics like Star Wars.

I know I'm rambling, so I'll end with this: Stories are powerful. Don't let reality tell you how to end yours.
